The Rising Cafe is described by TripAdvisor users as a "hidden gem" and upon your first visit it's not hard to see why. Tucked away in between the Alive church buildings on Newland, Rising Cafe is easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking out for.
With the return in popularity of independent coffee shops and tea rooms, Rising cafe, with its warm and welcoming atmosphere and nostalgic decor that draws visitors back to the 1940s epitomises their quirky and individual nature in comparison to their high street counterparts.
Being tucked away the cafe is the perfect place to escape for a few hours, its cosy feel and friendly nature emanating from the helpful and welcoming employees; as well as the homely furnishings that make you feel as though you're popping round to a friend's house for tea. There are sofas and arm chairs tucked away into corners, wooden tables decorated with little bunches of flowers and the walls are adorned with old advertisements, wooden signs and suitcases.
You could spend hours merely sat down looking around at the various furnishings, noticing little details here and there.

However, whilst the decor is befitting of the theme of the cafe what is, of course, the most enticing aspect of the Rising cafe is its menu. There are certain places that you visit where you wish you could o
rder absolutely everything on the menu, and the Rising cafe is certainly one of those places. From exceptionally cheap bites like their Churchilli or homemade cup of soup, to the more extravagant platters and afternoon teas, everything sounds equally as tasty and worth a try. The cafe offers everything from vegetarian to vegan to gluten free, so there really is something for everyone.

If all of that isn't enough to entice you then perhaps the story behind the cafe's creation and function will be. The beauty of Rising Cafe is that whilst it is a lovely place to go and eat, or have a cup of tea and cake, it also serves as a charitable organisation which helps the community. The money earned goes towards giving help to people suffering from drug and alcohol addiction and employs those who have and are recovering from these addictions.
Just one more reason why you should go out and enjoy a big slice of cake.
